I first visited Japan last April, and spent 5 days in 3 cities. It was a fast sequence reel through Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, peppered with moments of graceful silence.

Maybe it was a sense of order, or mathematics. Maybe it was the cleanliness. The politeness. The sense of theatre that was both familiar and exotic.

Maybe it was just the old lady hurrying after me to let me know I forgot to collect the items I paid for. Maybe it was the old gentleman giving me instructions in Japanese (I only understood the word ‘mother’) on how to get to Nijo-jo.

Whatever it was, dear Reader, it was impressive enough to warrant a second visit, and for a full moon.

It could be the beginning of a long series of journeys, it could be enough for a while. Either way, I’m about to find out!
